Four things, done properly
We do not sub the metalwork out, and we do not install a gate we did not build.
Driveway gates
Slide, swing and cantilever. Steel subframe on every hardwood leaf — wood alone racks inside a season. Ipe, redwood or blackened steel over a welded tube chassis, hung on hardware sized to the leaf.
Fences
Ipe, redwood, cedar, wrought iron, welded mesh. On grade, panels step with the slope and rails stay level — raking a panel to follow the hill always looks wrong from the street.
Operators & access
Slide and swing operators with keypad, intercom or phone entry, battery and solar backup. Latch and strike welded to the frame, never screwed to the stile.
Repair & re-hang
Sagging leaves, seized tracks, rusted posts, dead operators, iron pulling out of stucco. Anchors get core-drilled and epoxy-set into the pilaster, not tapped back into the old hole.
Two identical gates six miles apart are not the same job
A solid leaf over 6′ on an exposed ridge is a sail. Post, footing and operator are sized to the load, or the gate tears off its track inside two winters.
Coastal Santa Monica gets hot-dip galvanised substrate under the powder coat. Inland Encino does not need it, and charging for it there would be dishonest.
Hillside runs get stepped panels on level rails. Raking a panel to follow the slope is quicker and always looks wrong from the street.
Pool barriers are set by code, not preference: no climbable horizontal inside, self-closing and self-latching leaf, latch height fixed.
How a gate gets built
Six to ten weeks from site visit to handover. Longer if the HOA sits on the drawings.
We measure the opening, slope, swing path and utility lines. No quote is written from photographs.
An elevation and a section with the real cut list — tube, gauge, species, finish, operator model.
LADBS submittal and HOA design review handled. Skipping the permit costs you the finished gate.
Cut, welded, ground and coated in the shop, not in your driveway. Hardwood is milled and finished first.
Footings to sensors, then a UL 325 entrapment test with you standing there. You keep the drawing set.
